Sun and Surf

We have now been in Imsouane for over 2 weeks

The weather has been delightful bright sunshine and between 22-27°c

Craig, Aimee, Chloe, James, Bianca and Luca all went on their way leaving me, Rachel, Harry and Paul

We have been surfing nearly every day

Sometimes the tide times mean we get up for sunrise

I am slowly improving but also enjoy just sitting out the back on my board and watching the others

We spend the rest of the day napping, eating delicious food and playing endless games of cards

We’ve been here so long now we feel like part of the community. We know the cafe owners, shop owners and a few of the villagers.

We are getting much better at French and over the past 2 months have also been picking up some Arabic. Here are all the Darija Arabic words and phrases I know so far:

Hello – salam alaycum

Goodbye – beslama

Thank you – shokcran

Please – afaak

Yes – n’aam

No – la

Ok – wakha

Enough – safi

A little – shwaya

A lot – bezzef

How are you? – labess

I’m good, and you? – labess wenti

Thanks to God – hamdelilah

Beautiful – zwina

I want – bgheet

This one – hadi

That one – hadeek

How much? – bshhal

Cheers (to good health) – besseha

Hopefully (God willing) – Insha’Allah

Let’s go (hurry) – yala

To eat – kol

To drink – shreb

Bread – khobz

Rice – rooz

Sugar – sukkar

Eggs – beyd

Tea – atay

Soup – hrira

And to talk to the dogs:

Come – ajee

Go away – sil

In other news there is a repatriation ferry running on the 19th January. We have all signed up to it but the French people will have priority as it has been organised by the French embassy. Still, even if we don’t get this one hopefully others will run soon after.
