Repatriation

We had news the other day that the French Embassy were putting on a repatriation ferry. We found out how to sign up but we were not hopeful because we are not French, and priority was going to be given to French citizens.

A few days later Harry got a phone call from the ferry company saying he had a place. They would only speak French so Paul took over the conversation and somehow managed to persuade the man we were all travelling together and to take all of our details. So, all 4 of us got a confirmed place on the boat.

We were still not that hopeful because we had not been given a price. Rumours were that it would be between £1000 and £2000, which just isn’t in our price range.

The next day we got a WhatsApp message with all of our tickets. The price for me and my van was €600. This is so much less than we expected and I decided it is worth paying to get my freedom back. So now we have only 1 week left in Morocco! I’m still in shock because I’d mentally prepared to be here for another couple of months, as there is no sign of the borders opening. It’s mixed emotions. So sad to leave this beautiful country but excited for the next adventures.

We have no idea why Harry got a call and the rest of us didn’t. None of the other Europeans here in Imsouane got a call either. We were very lucky that

  1. Harry had his phone on loud
  2. We were not out surfing at the time
  3. Paul is French and could do all the talking
  4. They took all of our details as if we were one family
