Whilst driving to Spain I suddenly thought about my mobile data (internet) that I have been using the last 10days. In England my contract is for unlimited data but I just remembered the small print says 12G limit abroad.. have I used it all? Am I being charged excessively for every megabite I go over?
I had reached Spain and was driving into the hills. It became very misty.
I pulled up and did a bit of research on my data useage. Over 30GB! And I find out they charge 5p per megabite you go over. So that’s a bill of hundreds of pounds 😖
I left my misty park up and headed into the city at the bottom the hill to find a phone shop that could sell me a spanish SIM card.
After a tour of industrial Spain I found this huge supermarket
Inside was a little phone shop
I went in and started asking for help in French before realising I was in Spain, then realising I don’t know any Spanish. Luckily for me the owner of the shop spoke fluent English.
He not only got me a new Spanish SIM, but also set it up for me and made sure it worked in my dongle.
Relief!
I then rang my English network in the hope they might take pity on me and let me off the huge bill this time. The automatic voice told me I hadn’t used any data out of my limit and my bill was £0 …
Who knows what I’ll be charged. But I will wait in hope for the end of the month!
NB. You need a passport to buy a SIM card in spain.
