Florence

Feeling back to my healthy self I was able to spend 2 lovely long days exploring Florence

The birthplace of the Italian Renaissance

And often voted the most beautiful city in the world

I went into the cathedral

Which boasts the first octagonal dome in history to be built without a temporary wooden support

And the Ufizzi gallery

Full of works by Botticcelli, Michelangelo, Da Vinci et al.

Then took a sunset walk back to my van

I was parked up a hill, just outside the San Miniato al Monte

With views over the city

I woke to see this hot air balloon just taking off

On my second day I tried to go into the Accademia to see Michelangelo’s ‘David’ but it turns out that my vaccines have expired. Italy only accept vaccines from the last 6 months. I need to get a booster but you can’t have one for 4 weeks after having covid. I was just starting to think that travelling in Italy might not be so fun if I can’t go in any galleries, museums, restaurants etc. when someone messaged me on Instagram to say that if you can prove you had covid in the last 3 months then this counts as a kind of ‘booster’ and they should let you in. Luckily I had my test done at a pharmacy in France and they gave me an official positive result certificate, so I do have proof and a QR code. Next time I want to get in somewhere I will try using that! Fingers crossed.
