Guimarães

I spent 3 days in and around Guimarães

This city proudly claims to be the birth place of Portugal because Portugal’s first king Afonso Henriques was born there

It’s historic centre is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site and dates back to the 9th century

I was lucky to meet back up with a friend I made at my WorkAway who is from Guimarães

He gave me a tour a took me to a restaurant with the tastiest food I’ve ever eaten

I saw a traditional university ‘Tuna’

I slept here, right under the castle

Amazing views, amazing stars

I had a spa day in the thermal pools (no pictures I’m afraid! )

Saw another ancient Celtic settlement

And admired the views of the city from the top of the hill
