I left the van in secure parking at the airport and headed into the ancient medina of Marrakech
It was founded in 1070 by the Almoravids (Berber Muslim dynasty)
A place of significant historic, social, political and economic importance in North Africa
It is now a UNESCO world heritage site
The patterns and colours you see everywhere are stunning
I found the most amazing spice shop
It spread over 3 floors
They invited me onto the roof to see the views
The streets of the medina were tiny, winding and crammed full of people and motorbikes (I could only capture the quieter moments because in the busiest places I was concentrating on not being squished)
By some miracle I managed not to get lost
I enjoyed browsing and managed not to spend any more money
This has to be one of the most fascinating cities I’ve ever been to
Next I head to the Atlas mountains
